Art 2Art 2 is a Visual Arts course that is designed to refine the technical skills of the students. We will build on previous knowledge and investigate more advanced methods and materials in painting, drawing, sculpting, and photography. Units include Composition, Principles of Design, Figure Studies, Acrylic techniques, Graphic Design, Relief Sculpture and more. Throughout the course, students will also further refine their critical analysis skills by engaging in Art Criticism discussions and writings while exploring multiple artists, cultures, and historical periods. Pre-requisite: ART 1

Art 3Art 3 is a Visual Arts course that is designed to focus on content and meaning. Students will use their previous knowledge of various Medias to explore their own interpretations of subjects such as Expressionism, Surrealism, Visual Story Telling, and more. The curriculum will continue to focus on four main areas including Art Criticism, Art History, Aesthetics, and Studio. Students will now be challenged to display their own voice within their work. Pre-requisites: ART 1 and 2.

Art 4Art 4 is an independent studio course consisting of advanced studies in Visual Art. Students develop a personal theme or concentration to explore within the context of nine units on various topics and media. Pre-requisites: Art 1, 2, and 3 or IB Art 1.

PIB ArtPIB ART is a foundation Visual Arts course that aims to teach students about the language of Art. The curriculum focuses on art criticism, aesthetic discussion, studio works, and art history. Throughout the course, emphasis is placed on students strengthening their visual problem solving skills. This is accomplished through critical analysis of different cultures, styles, and periods of Art. The results are seen through the creation of multiple artworks in graphite, charcoal, ink, pastel, paint, and clay. This class also informs the IB students about the process, components and examination of the IB Art Program.

IB Art 1IB Art 1is a junior level Visual Arts course that follows the standards and procedures set as a part of the International Baccalaureate Program. This advanced level course is one of the most rigorous courses we offer and challenges students to push beyond simple assignment based projects. Through this course, students will complete numerous in depth analysis of various artists and cultures as a part of their research component. For the studio component, they will explore multiple media with a goal of finding the one best suited for their needs. Finally, the students will begin the creation of a portfolio of works based around a central theme known as their concentration. Pre-requisites: PIB or Art 1

IB Art 2IB Art 2 is a senior level IB Art course that follows the standards and procedures set as a part of the International Baccalaureate Program. This advanced level course is one of the most rigorous courses we offer and challenges students to push beyond simple assignment based projects. Students will investigate contemporary artworks in comparison with cultures of the past. They will also work to create artworks relevant to their personal theme or concentration developed at the end of the IB1 course. Throughout the units of study, students will be encouraged to focus on media relevant to their personal skill level and interest. Documentation of the studio processes and critical investigations will continue in their Investigation Workbook. The final examination is an exhibition of the student’s work at the Columbus Art Museum. Pre-requisites: PIB Art and IB Art 1
